Social Media Usage Analysis
Research Topic: Social Media
Target: Japanese University students
Number of respondents: (22)
(Summary) Students answered 11 questions about their individual social media habits.
(Results)
First off, everybody said I could use their data. Mwahahaha.

So far 8/22 responses are from Japanese students, there will be a few more by the end of the semester.

Looks like most of my friends are boys.

Most people appear to be 18-20 years old, crikey I'm old.

Initially, I'd listed every social media platform I could think of off the cuff, but I feel kinda silly not including WhatsApp as an option, considering I’d be asking Europeans, oops!

In terms of hours spent online, it looks like mostly a bell curve centering around the 3-4 hour mark.

Looks like people that think before they post are more common that those that post without a second thought.

I was initially expecting answers to lean toward presentation, but looks like I was wrong, and results point slightly opposite toward authenticity. I suppose no authenticity feels corporate and impersonal.

People seem to lean toward hiding negative emotions online. Maybe I should've specified towards public versus private-facing accounts.

From the following free response answers, you can see some respondents were very specific with their answers lol.

(CONCLUSION)
Yeah that's all for now. When initially looking at the results, it was only then that I'd gotten the thought to include a question about whether someone's profile was searchable, or if you could effectively only add them via QR code. I notice some people will have their name in their profile, but using a font different from the default, therefore it doesn't come up in search results just searching their name ordinarily. I'm not sure if this is a matter of aesthetic, or purposefully making someone's profile harder to find. Overall, I didn't have a clear idea of what I was looking for initially making this survey, but I wished I'd focused more on the privacy aspects. Lafleur, in case I forget to ask you about this, please remind me, because I'm interested in getting better results now that I have this hindsight.
